Default Buy 2006 and skip 2007 if you still can

My wife bought 2006 A3 a year ago, and last weekend I sold my G35c and took delivery of 2007 A3, which I ordered 1 month ago. I was exited until I found out that:

1. 2007 premium pkg does not include Auto dimming mirror, homelink, auto lights and rain sensors. Premium pkg cost $400 less in 2007, but base price is $600 more, which makes it $200 more for less features.
2. 2007 no longer includes free scheduled maintenance, I had to pay $500 to get that.

I wish I knew this before I ordered my car - I would have definitely bought one of the 2006 left it stock, even if it hadn't color that I liked.

So - buy 2006s if you can still find them. There is nothing in 2007 model that I can see that makes it better.

Default And Don't Forget: No More XM in '07

I know that both satellite radio providers have their avid -- not to say rabid -- adherents, and while not faulting the Serius fans, I fall squarely in the XM camp. For '07, Audi has chosen to discontinue offering XM; a fairly boneheaded move, IMHO, as there are 12 million XM subscribers who can pay a (comparatively small) add-on price each month to get XM in their car, as opposed to paying the full fare to get Serius, over and above what, for many of us, is a multi-year, already-paid-for XM subscription contract. For prospective music-lovin' buyers who are on the fence, this could easily tip the scales to another ~~~ and as we all know, inferior!! ~~~~ brand.

Default IIRC, you can install XM on an 07 car.

It's just not available directly from the factory with XM installed.

Default 2007 3.2 still has auto dimming mirror, auto lights, and rain sensing wipers. Homelink is gone and

free scheduled maintenance is gone but can be purchased for $550.

Default you're right

I knew that and I decided to buy an 06 instead and luckly they had the color that I was looking for. There were two black ones left (MT and DSG) but mine doesn't have the GPS.
That's okay for me.

Default Cheaper to add it yourself

I just had to purchase a XM tuner online from someone other then Audi for around $125. Very simple to install on my 06. Expect it is the same with the 07.

Default Are you sure it will be supported by the stock (symphony) head unit?

I guess it would (like any aftermarket device), but my point was that a lot of folks ~~ not on this board, of course! ~~ are swimming out there in the shallow end of the mainstream, and don't want to screw around with aftermarket electronics. It not being available as a factory option might be enough to at least encourage them to look elsewhere. I could be wrong, but I thought that when I fisrt read the story, it indicated that Audi wouldn't be supporting XM at all.

Default Toss-up

I considered an '06 as well for all the reasons you stated.

However, something about getting a 2nd-year model (at least it's 2nd year in USA) was attractive from a mechanical standpoint. You never know what they tweaked or improved based on DSG/Open Sky issues.

Also, the Sport package, now S-line, I believe has the convenience package you couldn't get before. And of course, the S-line trim is new for the 2.0T.

It's definitely cheaper to grab an '06.
