on my S Line grille if I ordered it with the filler panel (no chrome) with the space for a license plate WITHOUT having to take the entire grille off? I just like the all black front grille, but would love to (though illegal in Texas) run the all black look without just taking the license plate off the current filler panel and leaving an empty space for the license plate. It is this one;OEM A3 Plate Filler, All Black ES#6397 on this page:

You need to remove the bumper for the grill and/or surround, not the filler panel

Once you remove the screws, the filler plate can be removed easily from the clips that hold the top in place.

It takes about 2 minutes to change filler plates.

Mine also had 2 screws through the back too. You have to get to them inside the engine compartment

Mine was a "no-plate" filler.

and they don't actually hold the filler plate in, they further attach the grille to the bumper i believe.
