Default Car key strategies when going surfing

If there are any folks who'd like to chime in on a decent way to hide/protect their keys whilst surfing, please feel free. I've been trying to work around the issue for a while now. Tried keeping just the hatch unlocked; that failed epically when I realized the car auto-locks after a few minutes. I don't want to take the valet key in the water, since it still has an immobilizer chip and I'm certain that's not waterproof. Has anyone found a good strong place to hang a combination keysafe on the outer frame? Suggestions would be welcome.

Do you have the plastic key? Tie it to your ankle or some other way to secure it. Leave key in car. Use plastic key to unlock the car.

I heard of a guy that did not secure it well. And ended up breaking his own window to get in. So make sure to secure it well.

Hide it somewhere under the car?

Many boardshorts have a dedicated key pocket, with a sealed heavy plastic pouch inside. That's what those pouches are for (and you'll often see wax scrapers attached in the same pocket).

My valet key has always done just fine in mine.

Default Plastic key? Dealer told me otherwise..

Hm. I called my local dealership, and they told me they don't make a plastic, immersible key. The valet key has an immobilizer chip, so that's not an option. I could just use a zip-lock bag and store it in my wetsuit pocket, but I'd be on edge the whole time, wondering if it was sealed correctly.

Where did you all manage to find plastic keys?

I don't surf, but I steer a dragon boat. I put my key in a zip-loc bag, and it has always been fine. Just double check that it is closed before you go in the water.

The immobilizer chip is a sealed glass capsule RFID device. Same as the ones the they inject into pets.
valet key is ok
It has much empty space inside, so it may hold water / drip.
You can pry the handle open to look.
I converted my valet key into a thin wallet key by making a new handle.

i just put my valet key directly into the pocket on my boardshorts. i'm not sure it's super smart to do, but i have had no problems... yet.
