Default Cargo capacity (in cubic guitars)

I need a new car and am seriously considering waiting for the A3 to come stateside. They just aren't that many good AWD coupe/hatchbacks over here.

Question: How does the rear cargo area compare spacewise on the A3 vs the Golf/ R32 platforms? Specifically, I play guitar and end up crating a lot of guitar gear about. It's be nice to be able to fit an accoustic guitar in the back cargo area without having to put down the seats. It BARELY fits into an R32/Golf 4, anybody have any experience with the A3 and guitars? The R32 rocks, but it's a might too small.

Maybe I should just take up viola.

Well you can't fit a golf bag there if that helps any. I have a hard shell case for a Fender Strat and I'm pretty sure you can't fit it there. Not 100% sure though, never tried...

Default A3 Sportback...

has a significantly bigger carrying capacity than both the 3 Door A3, and Golf 4..

I believe that you guys are getting Sportback, but not 3 Door?

Oh, good.

It look like the sportback is coming stateside this spring. Hopefully the Quattro/3.2V6 will be along by summer. Once the v6 gets here, I will purchase one, assuming my guitar fits.

Ironically, all I need is about 4 extra inches of width to the back compartment from the R32 and the accoustic would fit pefectly without having to reconfigure the vehicle. Maybe the next gen MkV based R32 will be enough larger to accomodate my unreasonable demands.

Well, at least the Audi's coming here. The other altenative is the Haldex-ified Jetta GLI they keep promising us stateside.

Sigh.

I can't get my accoustic (in hard carry) in the back / boot of my new 3 door A3 - it has to ride in the front seat.

...It's been spied testing on UK roads.
What's more interesting is that VW has registered R36 too.

Default Rubbish, almost the same size

There's nearly no difference between the cargo sizes of 3-door A3 and Sportback. 3-door has 330 litres and Sportback has 350 litres.

Talk about huge difference, huh? You couldn't see the difference in flesh.
