Our A3 is getting its catalytic converter replaced (fortunately under warranty). 3 years old, but just 16k miles. Had a rattle when releasing throttle.
Is this normal?

We had the Mechatronic replaced at about 3k miles. Warranty is up in another 7 months.

We test drove a 2006 a couple of times with about 23,000 on it and during the second test drive(when we thought we were going to buy the car) I noticed a rattling noise while coming to a stop. Once I heard it I listened for it and realized that it was at a certain RPM range when slowing down.
When we got back to the dealer I said there was something wrong and the salesman assured me that it was probably just loose and whatever is wrong they will take car of me after the sale.
We walked out when we couldn't agree on a price(a long story) and I got an e-mail from the salesman a couple days later and he said it was the cat. was bad.

So long story short, normal - don't know but certainly not isolated.
