Well, I know it's a love hate relationship, but my A4 was a mess, and not just to the ****. So w the A3, I decided to try it out. I was waylaid a month by that funky bumper mishap, but today was the day. Glen from Clear Choice Detailing (he was at the New Hope GTG), spent 9 hours at my house applying a 20 mil Pro-Form kit. The material is made by 3m. Entire front end, headlights, fogs, hood, fenders, mirrors (stock ones). We own cars w intricate front ends. Well, I cannot tell its on the car. The cuts are so clean. Every angle is a little different. And, it needs to sit in the sun for a day to dry out a little. My biggest concern was I would lose the beauty of my paint. No more. It looks like it was meant to be there. I HIGHLY recommend Glen, and I did my homework.

I have it and I would be regretting it if I didn't get it for "free".

Next time I'll be going for different film material such as lamin-x or ventureshield. The 3m stuff is way too orange-peelish and has poor optical qualities up close.

How much did it run you?

Oh ya, you should wax it tonight. There's a whole thing up on 3m's website about quickly applying a layer of wax within a few days of application in order to "seal the pores"

Found the quote "A layer of wax should be applied to the film as soon as possible after installation to close the pores in the clear coat. This will prevent bug acids and road grime from staining the kit. "

got 'the competitor', lumar, i think, on my R, and it is totally inferior. it looked like crap within a couiple of weeks. i'm going back to 3M, unless i personally see something better. granted that was 3M material from the turn of the century, and it may have changed a bit. there may also be different thicknesses of the 3M, that can affect the 'orange peel' effect. the lumar stuff has a dull finish, i didn't have the orange peel effect at all, zero, on my a4, and the gloss is still a perfect match to the clearcoat, but i've seen what you are talking about on many. thickness, or application/curing process could be the problem.

it is a clearcoat over a urethane base. Super thin . . . 8mils IIRC. Quite crappy obviously.

My friend has the old 3m stuff . . . . much "harder" . . . looks clear . . . but it yellows out.

I wouldn't wax it. I'd apply a clear bra over it for extra protection.

As usual they're lerking in the shadows waiting to pounce, but not to worry, most of us are not so judgemental about what others do to their own vehicles.

It appears that you won't be able to detect the clear bra unless you're right on top of it. Seems like good protection.
