Im my previous car (94 Volvo), I'd set the heater fan slider to AUTO when I parked in cold weather.
Later, when I started the car, the fan would not run initially (no cold drafts).
As the engine heated up, the fan slowly ramped up to about 3/4 full speed to heat the cabin as rapidly as possible, then slow down as the target temperature was reached. It was usually comfortable inside within 2 miles, with no manipulation of controls required.
In my 3.2, climate control to Auto, the fan speed starts out at 3 bars, sucking cold air into the car, and it never changes.
With the fan always at 3 bars, the interior starts off with a cold draft, then heats up very slowly.
So, when I start off, I have to turn it down to avoid the cold draft, then remember to turn it up again later as the engine warms up.. Just like the manual fan in my 84 Toyota and all previous cars.
I expected the thing to be at least as well automated as the Volvo was.

After my passenger has selected what we'll diplomatically call "midlife" temperature settings for her side of the car [g], the auto fan function at times appears to be confused when I later use the car solo.
If you press and hold the Auto button for 5-10 seconds it re-syncs the temps and may remind the fan of its proper duties.

One correction: It does start at zero, but ramps up to 3 bars in about 20 seconds., which is too fast for warm up.. More like a soft start feature.
