Al and myself confused some drivers last night on the M6, side by side at about 85mph we set off at full pelt in 5th - due, however, to slight communication deficit, I set off marginally behind al and about 1/4 second later on the throttle but after a second or two had drawn forwards 1/4 length and at 5 seconds or so was heading off increasingly rapidly into the distance....
Also, coming off the slip road Al tried to keep up under full pelt but didn't have great success - probbably better to get his view point as I dunno how hard he was going
David.
P.S. DHA and Pug 205 Owners, power/weight ratio is now approx 171.056 bhp/ metric ton according to my probbably inaccurate mathematics

as your 1.8TSQ does not have the weight advantage over the S3 like the front wheel drive plus, common opinion is that without internal strengthening modifications, the max power from the 150/180bhp engine is about 210-215 bhp which is in the same vein as the new S3s.

Guys,
Yep I think quite a few drivers must have thought what was going on, seeing two now almost identical silver A3's cruising along on the M6.
On the slip road, I was following David, and I think we were accelerating at pretty much the same sort of rate. Both of us not really trying at that point. I certainly didn't have my foot to the floor at that point.
I think David you really opened it up once on the motorway (?). Anyway, David went round a car in the middle lane. We accelerated I think at roughly the same time, and for a moment about 1/2 a second nothing really happened, but then it really did start to pull away. I'd say relative speed...a good 20mph and building.
On the 85mph test, side by side, which was fun, I may have accelerated slightly before Dave. But no worry, I saw his bonnet lift as he floored it, and steadily started to come past. It then really picked up speed and pulled away. Very impressive.
I had a drive of Daves car too. The power delivery was very smooth. But now very very easy to light up the tyres in second gear!
But on the motorway, you really only notice how quick the car is when you see other cars disappearing, and when 4000rpm comes it surges to 100 and beyond with far more purpose than the stock car. The other thing you notice is the throttle response, in every gear it is excellent. 5th gear now actually feels like you've got some torque under your foot, which you soon realise is true as the bonnet lifts like the stock car in 3rd!!
AL (very impressed)

Eager to hear about the chipping experience of another quattro. Think I'm going to do it too but it won't be until the new year (other toys to buy first - not car related!) and I'll let you be the Guinea Pig! ;-)
