Default Dealer said coolant over max line is just fine. Get this....

I complained that, after the last service, the coolant was way over the max line. The service advisor told its just fine like that, and it is actually good, because "these engines use coolant."
WTF?! How does a 2.0T with 6,000 miles on it use coolant? She said the hot weather causes it. Does this sound totally nuts to anyone else? I'm thinking they said that just so they don't have to fix their f-up.

hmmm...did they check your muffler bearings and change the air in your tires while they were at it?

Default If it is hot and you have a heavy foot you will use coolant...It is just evaporating

On my BT B6 in the summer I need to top of the coolant like every 6 weeks. Its not a big deal, and to have a little more over the max is perfectly fine. I would expect a new car to rip through some fluids at first

Default Interesting..

The coolant is a sealed pressurized system. If the engine is "using" it, then it's leaking somewhere and should be fixed.

Default hmmm you said "she" . . . there's your answer

you do realize that a service adviser's job is to BS as much as possible and deny warranty claims right?

Default Huh? Evaporating from a sealed system? Doubt it.

If you are losing coolant, it has to be going one of two places: on the ground due to a leak, or into the combustion chamber (or oil passages) due to a failing or blown head gasket.

Here's hoping it's the former.

Default well yes maybe evaporating isnt the correct word...but as it heats up the coolant does become a gas

And if the this gas gets hot enough it can escape a sealed system (Through the seal on the Coolant tank cap)...At least on the 1.8t motor. I know that i personally am not leaking any coolant on my GTRS setup but it does get mighty hot with EGT consitantly around 850-900 under load and aggressive driving. If the oil gets too hot it is the coolants job to disapate some of the heat if it is hot outside the coolant can become super heated and will become a gas, when it cools of again it turns back into a liquid and looks like condesation inside the coolant resivoir, it is posible for it to escape

Don't forget to have your blinker fluid topped off and your power bands rotated.
