Default Diverter Valve Problems - Round 2...

Guys, there is a very interesting series of posts concerning diverter valves and their orientation in the TT forum (Posted my MichaelTT mainly). As you may know, they had many problems with the DV valves in TT's, both 180 and 225 and most of them have gone to the Bailey valve solution. I have also ordered mine, in order to upgrade the stock plastic valve, just in case.

Have a look, as it is very interesting.

Nikos.

P.S. Maybe Paul has a better idea on the matter.

https://www.audiworld.com/forum/m/tt/msgs/108325.phtml</a

Default Can someone translate all this into plain English for me?

So what if this thing is mounted reverse? Any danger to the car? Or is the problem isolated to the Darth Vader sound? Why should I bother changing that damn thing's direction?

As i understood, the problem is with the stock diverter valve. Most of them are defective, resulting in loss of pressure in the turbo, hence reduced performance. They have changed the stock plastic Bosch valve with a competition aluminium piston type valve to avoid any problems. I have also ordered this valve, because i know that in most cases the stock valve is plastic and goes bad after a while.
What is important is that, Audi has placed the stock valve the other way round, hence creating even more problems.
I do not know if any of you (especially those with S3's) have noticed any strange sounds when lifting-off the power at high rpm's, but nobidy has mentioned anything. It is under these conditions that you mainly notice the problem.

For more information, you can refer to the TT forum, and to the url of Michael TT.His site is very nice.

Default Many thanx for your assistance, but I have still have some more questions

What will happen if this thing does not work as it meant to be?
What kind of damage could this scenario cause?
You say "they have changed". Who are "they"?
Who did the fitting of this new valve?
And what does Audi say about this?

Sorry for asking so much, but I never heard of such a problem and I didn't experience such a problem. I understand how this valve works, and from my experience it shouldn't cause a problem as this valve could work both ways.

Default Ravenx, did you check which way your valve is looking?

I haven't really checked that out, but it will be the first thing i will do the next time a see an S3, especilly when i get my car.

But just to be safe, i have ordered a competition DV (many of my friends had turbo cars, and that was the first thing they changed, since most stock parts are plastic and have diaphragm). In addition i got a Vag-tool in order to be able to check if anything is wrong, before going to Audi, especially since Audi of Greece is a bit crappy (to tell you the truth, there is not Audi of Greece, VW & Audi are the same!!! That tells a lot).
I haven't tried that yet, but i will in a couple of weeks when i will meet my brothers A3.I will post the results, if anybody is interested.

Nikos.

Default Re: From where did you order that valve?

The valve i ordered is the one that the guys at the TT forum wave used. It is the Bailley Motorsport Diverter valve DV30. I include the url to their website in this post.
If you want to contact them, i suggest you do not e-mail them, since they did nover reply to my numerous e-mails, but when i called them they were very helpfull. In fact a friend of the guy i talked to, just got a S3 and he was telling me about it.
He said that the DV 30 is the direct replacement to the stock Bosch valve, and they had made tests on that part hence suggest it for the TT/S3.

The cost is about 105 pounds, which is quite a lot for a d-valve, but i just want to be safe.

I hope this helps. If you need any more, you can e-mail me. Michael TT has all the information and pictures on how to replace the valve.

Default Re: From where did you order that valve?

DV30's are available all day long (usually) from my Audi specialist's in London, UK.

goto www.eurotek-online.com

I got one fitted, it's good quality, and wont suffer any of the probs associated with the stock valves.
