Nice writeup! What was the cost of the filter drain tool?

Default Interesting... you have a 3.2 oil filter housing on a 2.0T

I checked with the service manual and your filter housing is used on the 3.2 model.

After pulling down the spash skirt on my 2.0T, I found that it requires the VW filter wrench #3417 like the service manual states. I cannot use the 36mm wrench.

interesting...

Default Um every 2.0t owner that I've spoken with has used a 36mm socket

This includes people such as joe@vwvortex & PDPerformance. Perhaps yours is an oddity. Have you actually done it?

Default NP, I hope to make it a little bit more complete in the future as I get more new info

Looking for torque specs on the drain bolt, PNs for the crush washer and the OE drain plug etc etc. Just like to be thorough. Also hope to put everything in a downloadable PDF format one day.
