Thinking about moving out of the 2001 A6 Avant to a used A3. Do the A3s have any issues like the A6? Oil leaks, suspension, etc.

The 2.0T, especially the 2006-2008.5 FSI version of the engine (timing belt, not chain) is notorious for *burning* about 1qt every 1000-2000 miles, not necessarily leaking.

Other things to look out for in the 06-08.5 models:
1. PCV (extended service warranty campaign)
2. Cracked coolant flange
3. Cam follower/HPFP failure (extended service warranty campaign)
4. Carbon buildup on the valves
5. Thermostat failure
6. AC compressor failure (TSB available but no extended warranty campaign, primarily '06-'07 models)
7. Intake flap motor failure (I believe there is an extended service warranty campaign on this as well)

The 2008.5 and up models switched to the updated EA888 motor which utilizes a timing chain along with a substantial number of additional updates that make is significantly more reliable.

Was driving a 2.8 A6, and before that a 1990 100Q. The A3 scares me, it's so fast, lol.
