Default Do you need special tools to change oil on the A3?

The new A4 needs special tools to change oil, what about the A3? Since it's based on the Gold GTi, I assume stardard tools would be okay?

The reason I'm concerning about this is, I don't live close to any audi dealers at the moment, so I may need to change oil at jiffy lube (with my own Mobil 1 oil of course).

Thanks

Default Had a bad experience with Jiffy Lube once.

It was the first/last time I ever let anyone other than myself or dealer change my oil.

I watched the guy do the following:

- Fill car with oil.
- Check oil level with dipstick.
- Start engine.
- Check oil level with dipstick again; only to
come to the conclusion that there wasn't
enough oil in the engine (after massive
amount oil had been sucked up into engine)

I ran out of the waiting room and screamed "WTF do you he think you're doing!!!???". He replied it was standard procedure to do this.

Default Re: DO NOT.....take that baby to.............

It's not that I want to take it to Jiffy Lube. I don't have a garage, so I can't change it myself, and I don't live close to any audi dealers, so I have to take it there, with my own oil.

I'll be moving back to the city in Fall, so I'll at most make 2 to 3 trips there. After that, I'll take it to the dealer only.

Default All you need to know . . .

You can take it to jiffy lube if you want a simple drain / fill, but I wouldn't bother having them try to change the filter.

Default MUST READ THIS!

Click on the link and read. Then get a PELA oil extractor, the special tool for the filter, and do it yourself without having to get under the car.

http://www.jiffylubeproblems.com/</a

Default pela doesn't get every drop out . . . and you have to go under the car and undo the

splash shield to replace the filter anyways.

I don't think you've ever done an oil change on the 2.0t.

Default No oil change will get "every drop".

There are always little puddles of oil throughout the engine and at the bottom of the pan. If you leave 3 oz. instead of 2 oz. will it really matter? If you're that paranoid just suck it dry and then pour in a half quart of fresh oil and suck it dry again.

Oh, and you're half right as usual when you said "I don't think you've ever done an oil change on the 2.0t". The part you're right about is when you said "I don't think". I have done an oil change. However, I have not done an oil AND filter change. :-P

Default Actually I'm saying that it leaves about 1.25 quarts left in the system.

Quite a bit of extra crud to be leaving in there. The oil filter itself probably holds an extra half quart. You're really not doing much with your "oil changes" then. I suppose it takes as much skill as driving an automatic :-P

Default <Sigh> Missed you so much Dave... NOT!

It was so peaceful... Well, all good things must come to an end.

I actually just did a quick change because I was going to be doing some real hard driving and a regular oil change was due soon so I just pumped what I could out and put in fresh.

When it comes time to do full oil changes I'll have to check out how much gets left behind. I would be pretty surprised if it was over a quart.
