Default DSG Transmission: will the clutch ever wear out and need replacement?

I have searched for DSG tech information, and am wondering if this is expected to last the life of the car such as a torque converter would for an automatic?

Default It's a wear item. Don't know about projected life - but would guess

driving style and state of tune (chipped) would play some part.

Obviously since Audi is picking up the tab for the first 50K, it's expected to last at least that long under a variety of conditions.

Check with the TT crowd, as they've had that tranny the longest.

Default The Audi guy (in the interview a few threads below) said that they've done

testing on the DSG equal to the life of the vehicle and they should last that long. We'll see.....

What is the expected life by Audi? I would like to keep it at least 10 years.

This one was '95, so it was 10yrs old last year

No major issues with either ever...both are 5sp though...the Coupe has ~145K miles and original clutch!

Default I've driven two manual transmission vehicles, both > 10 years old, both on original clutch.

I've heard of people who lose clutches all the time and I can't figure out why -- not racers, but daily drivers -- well, young adults (twenties) so daily drivers trying to be racers. When I actually ride with them, it makes perfect sense why their clutches blow out so quickly -- it's because they don't know how to drive stick. Most people who drive manual think downshifting is simply doing 80Kmph in 5th gear, shifting to 4th and just popping the clutch. That's a) hard on the timing belt and b) hard on the clutch so it's no wonder why their clutches burn out after 5 years. Most people don't understand that downshifting also entails a blip of the gas to match the RPMs. This action (if done properly) makes the car much more stable and increases the life of your clutch and timing belt. The DSG does actually blip the gas when it downshifts, so I'm going to assume the lifecycle of the clutches is going to be quite high -- again, I equate this to my driving style which entails a blip of the gas while I downshift -- and I haven't lost a clutch yet, so I think I'm doing something right.

Default Audi's powertrain durability testing...

is for 150,000 customer equivalent miles or 10 years.
Don't the details on the BorgWarner clutch, pump, and valvebody but I suspect they have the same/similar requirements.
