kcinga,

It is for a 2006 A3. Where do I get this reimbursement form from and how do I know I have an extended warranty? I did not buy the car new, it was used, btw. Thanks for your help.

Call 800-253-2834 -- it's the contact number for any questions about the repair reimbursement.

What year is your car? Many '06 owners are experiencing the "temp gauge stuck on C" problem. The dealer's first inclination is to replace the ECT sensor. Apparently most of these problems are caused by the thermostat going bad. The A3 ECU monitors the coolant temperature and if it doesn't follow a prescribed profile the ECU kills the temperature gauge. If it's reset (or after a couple of days) it will spontaneously start working again but will usually fail again. This happened to me and the only lasting repair was to replace the thermostat.

If you want to investigate further:

This is confirmed. Thermostat replaced a year ago and no problems. Also, there are two identical ECT sensors. One on the side of the block underneath HPFP area/above transmission. The other is located downstream from the thermostat housing. I replaced both ECT sensors and thermostat at the same time at 120k miles. Hoping for another 120k.
