Erratic Idling on 1998 A3 1.6

Erratic Idling on 1998 A3 1.6
Anyone have a similar problem - idles erratically between 600 - 1200 rpm. Dealer says accelerator housing is to blame - you can feel the vibrations through the accelerator pedal. Has been known to cut out when approaching junctions / roundabouts. £400 for a new one!!

no but ive heard the throttle cable often needs cleaning.
and fuel cleaning additives have to be used on the 1.6 because the its known to hold on to the residues in petrol.
im not sure but the above may be the cause of ure erratic idling but im just guessing

Guys, my wife and sister both have a 98 A3 1.6 with erratic idling, one had the lambda probe changed and the other the throttle body housing changed at great cost 380 quid, might not have solved problem, Audi met 40% of cost, any one else suffer same problem ,get a rebate towards repair?
