this might be of interest to those of you who are experiencing excessive tire noise.
in the past few weeks, i've been hearing what sounded like very loud tire noise coming from the rear (mostly on the right side), so i took the car to the dealership to get it looked at, and it turned out it had a "bad bearing," which they fixed, but apparently my left rear wheel had the same problem, so they are keeping the car till tomorrow, so they can chage that too.
i asked them if i could take the car home for the night, but they said, no, it's not safe to drive like that. so i am now driving a white pt cruiser (and oh man, i just CAN'T WAIT to get my a3 back).
i am very happy they were able to diagnose and fix this, and warranty covers it, and my "loaner" um... "car,"
so it's all good.
the thing about the noise that made me suspicious was that it was pretty loud, and it varied. also, it had a very subtle turbo-like lag -- it would kick in at a certain speed, and then would stick around for a little bit even when the speed dropped. it was louder on one side, and it would also come and go as speed changed. it was all very subtle, but i just knew something was up.

Assuming noise from the RR, if you take a series of left swerves, as you load the RR wheel, tire noise usually decreases, bearing noise would increase.

...develops marketing campaigns (or PSY-OPS depending on how you look at it) based on his theory that human beings always resort to making decisions based upon their REPTILIAN BRAIN. i.e, the ancient part of our brain leftover from reptilian stages of evolution.
So, every time I see a PT Cruiser I think to myself, "Lizardmobile!"
