Audi seems to be under the impression that 1 to 1 1/2 qt of oil is < excessive for 5,000 miles.
I know many of us are adding a quart every 5k. But I was curious if there are folks out there who are NOT having these issues? Are you checking your oil?? Are you running any performance mods?
For the record. I'm adding a quart. I changed the PCV about 6-8 months ago.

I've added 2.5 quarts in the past ~8k miles.
And that is the #1 reason why the car is getting traded in on a non-Audi, the second the car is no longer in free maintenance/ warranty.
(#2 is the fact is the awful tires that came on the car. I would expect that crap on a Kia, not an Audi. Absolutely insulting.)
I've owned 5 VW/Audis in a row. Any modern engine that burns that much oil, that early, and is in spec, is not something I want to own for a long time.
Based on how much of a VW/Audi fanboy I've been, they've really done a number on me. By all rights, I should totally love this car. But I don't. It's "eh". Moderately fun to drive, but not as fun as some of the other cars in this size (GTI, Mazdaspeed, STI.) Yet, it is no where near the luxury that Audi claims it is. Too many things are options that should be standard for the price point. (HID. Must get DSG/VR6 to get quattro. etc)
Sorry for the rant...
The damn oil consumption is such a stupid thing, yet is pisses me off so much.

No problems with oil consumption yet...
I check the oil level in my car everytime I fill up the gas tank. I didn't notice any reduction in oil before my 5k mile oil change. I just had the oil changed for the 10k interval and I have not yet noticed any drop in the oil level since the change.
I'm also not chipped, but I do have a TBE.

sad but true
I agree with you.
I have two A3s in my household. My gf and I both got the P6 (p-sucks). She is pretty ticked off about it. I have seasonal summer tires so I don't have the same issues (not as many miles and forced rotation).
Fun to drive? I agree again. No. Once a 2.0T A3 has a chip, suspension, and tires... is it fun to drive. IMO.

I sort of feel the same way with my A3 purchase. (minus the oil issue)
I wanted quattro, so I got stuck with an engine/transmission combo that I've grown to dislike. Add to this, I'd much prefer a diesel; after driving one while on vacation in Germany. The only Audi diesels we are likely to see in the States will be the A6, A8, or Q7; none of which I'd be likely to buy. It's not a question of cost, I just don't want a big car.
My ideal car would be an A4 Avant with(quattro/manual/2.0 TDI). I'm pretty sure this will never make it to the U.S.
