Has anybody experienced a faulty diverter valve the the TT guys are discussing?
If you visit the TT forum, you will see many posts on that very serious problem.

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/AudiWorldPics/2000/Umluftventil.jpg"></center><p>That's German for diverter valve. (nickname in the TT-newsgroup is "schnarrventil")
It's use is to lose the pressure in the intakemanifold between turbo and throttlevalve when it closes. If it wasn't there the buildup of pressure would cause a standstil off the turbo, the result would be a huge turbogap every time you switched gears (when the throttlevalve closes)
Another name for it is "popoffvalve" only this type will vent the pressure to the atmosfeer as the "umluftventil" (mounted on 150, 180, 210 and 225 HP engines) vents the pressure to the intakemanifold between airfilter and turbo.
Rumours said that the valve where the code begins with 06A is less sturdier then the one beginning with 034.
The piece is mounted at the backside of the engine, in the neighbourhood of the brakeassistanceunit just under the plastic enginecover.
I hope you've been enlightened, David![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Hi Paul.
So this is not a problem for the S3?
I was thinking of upgrading the dump valve, but now after reading all the problems i think i might get one just in case. Any suggestions?

One more question.
Is the S3's dump valve of the recirculating type?
Judging from the picture posted by Robert, if that is the stock part, i think so.

Sounds like the main symptom being experienced is the "mechanical flutter" sound on throttle lift-off, such as when changing gear.
I've had this "symptom" on my car since about 10000 miles (when I first really noticed it). And I've discussed it on this forum before with DavidR and John Robins.
My dealer said a long time ago that this sound is not a problem. I'm starting to wonder now (again) as to whether that is true or not.
It's a pity the Bailey Motorsport "DV30 re-circulating piston type dump valve" is 100GBP. It's a little too expensive to buy for experimental purposes.
John your loaded, buy one and see if it gets rid of the noise.![Smile](https://www.audiworld.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
