Default Front strut/spring removal

Has anyone done this yet? I am in the middle of the process and I can't get enough travel without major part removal. Is there a good method and what do I need to remove to get the assy out. Thanks.

You might get more help if you mention year and engine.

Default Yeah agreed.. better description would help as there are slight changes

If its an 8L platform and the swaybar goes to the control arm unbolt that from both sides. Undo the three bolts from the ball joint to the control arm. This should allow you to pull it away from the control arm and let it drop lower.. Should only have to do this on the right side, left side should be able to drop low enough usually..

Once you do that.. then you need to spread pinch part on the upright to pull it out.

OK. The sway bar mounts to the strut housing. I removed that mount and disconnected it from the lower control arm. This still left me about 1/2" short of being able to remove the strut. Thanks.

Default Drivers Side?

It should come down make sure the upper 3 bolts are still in place. Make sure you disconnect the ABS harness from the spindle, at that point it is just a matter of force

If not you will have to disassemble the sub frame, so you can lower the control arm

I have lowered 6 A3 Sportback so far and they are all the same

Ok. I'll try that. What's different on the passenger side?

Does the longer axle make the process different or will the breakdown be the same?
