Front sway bar squeaks on 3.2

A couple of weeks ago, I went to the dealership for scheduled maintenance It turned out I wasn't due for it and that the service indicator has been reset improperly the time before. OK, no biggie.
I also told them about a squeak coming from the front when the suspension compresses. Think coming off speed bumps.
They were going to charge me for diagnosis if the noise was not caused by a defective part (or something like that). Even though I'm under warranty. Rather annoying when I was told the warranty was the same as on the 2001 TT. But anyway...
So I go for a test drive with a technician. That takes, mmmm, 5 seconds since they have a speed bump at the exit of the service area. The guy says right way it's the bushings.
So I left the car. They called me at the end of the day. Good news: It was the front sway bar bushings which meant it was under warranty because they need to replace the whole sway bar (apparently squeaks in other bushings may not be covered). Bad news: There was not a single A3 3.2 front sway bar in the US.
Has anyone had this problem?
The dealer says it's not dangerous. Is it? And can it cause other problems?

Only reason I could think of is that it might have the plastic liner like the TT swaybars did.
Personally, I would have just sprayed some lubricant on the bushings and lived with it. Replacing the front sway bar is a pita and getting the car aligned properly after the install can be a bit of a hassle. As long as your dealership is willing to do all that for you, I'd go ahead with the replacement.
