Yeah, I just don't know if a 2 pedal car can compete with a 3 pedal.

umm.. quattro never hurts the handling. It's the added weight over the bumper that does

I will guaranty that the 4cyl quattro A3 will handle better than the GTI (especially through canyons).

The weight of quattro does not hurt performance.
-but if you have to step up to a heavier engine to add AWD (a la current MKV's)... performance has generally been considered a wash (especially from a cost perspective).
