Ok so if any of you on this forum are boy/girl racers or flat out don't appreciate the law encroaching upon your privacy, I have a testimonial for you. They installed quite a few of those wack GATSO speed cameras at intersections all over SF, so I decided to check into a rumour. I had heard about this stuff called "Photoblocker" that is a spray on clearcoat with sparkle flakes that wash out your plate numbers to those cameras. I decided to try it out, and it works amazingly well.
The theory is that your plate # stays visible even with a camera flash within a reasonable height say 7 feet. Anything above that like a GATSO cameras height of say 9 feet, and it all turns white! Check out my picture, I used about 7 coats to get great coverage. It isn't supposed to "wash out" unless you have a high powered strobe flash such as the one the speed cams are equipt with. The stuff works so good that my point and shoot flash disrupted the view. Hope it helps you guys.

http://www.photoblocker.com/</a

and I've been caught already although having a non-French licence means I only got a fine and no points as they obviously couldn't be bothered tracing the licence : )
It sounds like a great idea, but is there any way that if you're stopped by the police they can tell you have it on your plates? Fines for having radar detectors are horrendous here, and can also mean confiscation of your car so I dread to think what would happen if they caught you with that stuff!

It doesn't flash out to white from headlights or high beam flashes. It takes an aggressive flash of some sort (GATSO flash) to "blank it out" So the answer is no, and a cop could not detect it visually. Go to the website for those guys and see what the deal is on their end. It barely looks any more glossy than a standard plate. Check this picture of my plate taken at about 4 feet high.

http://www.photoblocker.com</a
