Greg et al, is 15bhp more in S3 worth going for?
Gentlemen,
As I still have not found the cash for a new M3, I would need you opinion / advice / information in the following issue; is another 15bhp / 30 Nm worth going for (i.e. MTM Exhaust upgrading).
The price is, of course, fairly high for such 'marginal' improvement - slightly over 1000 US dollars over here. However, I have now felt for some time that my S3 MTM 250BHP is sort of lazy, although I do of course know that it is too fast for the police and pretty decent compared with your average vehicle. With 380Nm, I would have 15Nm more than in a M3, which in reality means nothing but still would be sort of nice.
Have you heard anything (user experiences). What are your thoughts / would you yourself consider doing something like this? Why or why not?
Thanks a million.
Stefan

Hi Stefan:
In my opinion the MTM exhaust upgrades (stages 2 and 3) on top of the ECU is not worth doing. My reasons are:
1-very expensive
2-no warranty support here (don't know your situation) but we DO have warranty for stage 1 (ECU only)
3-my understanding is that it is very loud - the standard car is loud enough for me but this very subjective.
4-the performance gain over stage 1 is quite small compared to standard to stage 1.
If you are serious I would suggest you look at a rear Remus box only - would give you around 5-8hp (guessing a bit here) and if my experience with one on the A4 is anything to go by, it sounds great (not louder, but deeper) and is beautifully made (mine looked like new after 2 1/2 years) and looks a treat.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
