Default I was too--until the TTS was announced, Audi had never sold a 2.0TQ with DSG.

Now that they do, according to the Executive VP of AoA, the forthcoming 2.0TQ will have the DSG:

"Fourtitude: If I may ask you a little about new models? you were alluding to the Q5. What is the plan for this year as far as new models?

Johan de Nysschen: Our big news this year is of course the new A4. We will be introducing the new A4s, I think customer deliveries start around October 2008. The current car continues, which by the way we have configured in a way that is very attractive. The S-line package is more of the standard now - really nice content in the cars. We think they really offer a compelling value.

Other news will be the expansion of the TTS. We will have the addition of the A3 2.0 liter quattro. The TT will also be available with quattro and a four cylinder engine. So for both A3 and TT, we have the addition of quattro with a combination of a four cylinder.

Fourtitude: Either of those have manual transmissions?

Johan de Nysschen: The S tronic transmission will be standard in both cars."<ul><li><a href="http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Features/article_3797.shtml">http://www.fourtitude.com/news/publish/Features/article_3797.shtml</a</li></ul>

Default Let's hope it appeals and is affordable to a demographic different from the current R32

That car has bombed spectacularly for lack of a manual.

That may be due to the lack of performance enhancements for the 3.2l VR6.

Previous gen R32 (stick only) was snapped up very quickly and has a strong cult following.

Default At the time it was the only AWD 3.2l V6 available and was made available in the U.S.

due to a high interest level from potential U.S. buyers. VW originally wasn't going to bring the R32 over here but the press and enthusiasts convinced them that they would be marketable. The "limited availablility" of 5000 units also helped as did the fact that R32 availability preceeded the GTI 2.0T.

The present lack of interest in the current R32 is due to several factors:

1. The lack of a manual transmission choice
2. The 2005 R32s aren't really that old yet
3. The lack of performance enhancements for the 3.2l VR6.
4. The availability of the A3 3.2l.
5. The availability of the GTI 2.0T.

Default The MK I TT 3.2 was available at the time as well. Came with DSG.

I think the older farts who can afford the cars in this price range tend to be hard core traditionalists;-)

So if the A3 2.0TQ comes DSG only and is priced near the same mark as the present R32, Audi may find themselves in a similar pickle.

Default From what I remember the MKIV R32 didn't sell that hot. There was actually a fair

amount of them sitting on the lots. I do agree that it has a cult following but it took VW a bit to sell those 5k.

Default I think the only thing stopping current R32 sales is the lack of manual.

That should have been the only option for that car. VW isn't dealing with the same type of market like with the S4, where they sell a ton of autos. I think it was a huge miscalculation on VW's part.

Default Something else to keep in mind here on why the mkV R32 is not selling well...

Basically the mkV GTi is a wonderful car, even as stock so it is much better value, it is fun to drive and a great engine offering both manual and DSG 3-door and 5-door...

The mk4 by comparison was very poor as stock, when the R32 came out it blew the GTi away by a large margin.

The difference between the mkV GTi and R32 is much less.
