You are ABSOLUTELY correct. Chip and DP and you are done. You don't get the AWD, but
you do get 6 spd. Of course...I got DSG! UGH...it is NOT all that. But the wifey wanted an auto. My B8A4 Avant will be stick(if they bring it with a manual which isn't looking promising). May have to go sedan then. :-(

Initially word was slow to get out, but from what I gather, picked up considerably.
Most did feel the MK IV R32 was a bit too expensive given the price point of the Impreza, SRT, and EVO, but once on a similar footing, they seemed to vanish pretty quickly.

http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=2463257</a

Having awd is a massive difference over the GTi. The GTi and fwd A3 are fun, but
lack the ability to punch out of tight corners - a problem made worse by the boost coming on at such low rpms and coming on all at once.
Basic rundown of R32 vs S3:
Both run 35K Euros at equal trim levels.
R32 is the "Golf in sheep's clothing"
DSG and (haldex) quattro
idiot-proof
100kg more than S3 and 15hp less
S3
less in your face than R32, both externally,
luxury internally.
265hp turbo, (haldex) quattro
must be provoked to over- or understeer
crisp manual tranny, good match to engine
slightly faster on the track.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjtTuBTJYSc</a

Finally the right TT: TTRS. More attitude, completly funky, very good power
Technically interesting drive train and a great external design. Hopefully, the MK2 TT will show what a TT can really be.
I'm really excited about the new TT.

didnt have a r32 on the rollers that day, but the 3.2 A3 was nearly 40whp down on the S3
if it's the same motor in the r32, I'm not expecting it to be that much higher.

https://forums.audiworld.com/a3/msgs/103910.phtml</a

I so wish I could buy an S3 here. . . . a change from my previously stated view
After tracking my car, I would rather have the S3 now, I'm convinced.

ya, that dyno day was mainly attended by S3s
same day, same dyno, the 3.2 dsg A3 was 40whp down on the two stock 8p S3.

orig inal thread here.
