Its usually cold or very clean glass rubbing up against the window rubbers.
The window rubbers should be lubricated with silicone every now any again. Audi do this on some services.

Could you explain what rubber part you mean???
I believe that you mean these at the top of the window-- where the window is completely closed.
These are sthg like velvet from the one side (where it touches the window) and rubber from the other side.
Anyway i have lubricated with silicone the whole part but the disturbing sound still exists.

I experienced some problems on both my A3 1.8T (98) and my S3 (2000). Lubricate the "hairy" top list (on top of the door) and around it with Krytox, and wax the paint inside the doors. Krytox is a VERY expensive (+- £30) lubricant from VAG (G 052 172 A1).

I had this on my A4, and it was driving me mad. I spent hours spraying silicone on everything. It sounded like it should have been caused by the window rubbers, but it wasn't. I took the window galss out to see if the screeching was still present. And it was. Finally sorted it by slapping vaseline on the four corner pulleys of the mechanism. It now works like a dream.

Hi MAc Sub,
Thanks for the info you are providing.
I hope you are talking about the creaks that are created when the window glass is FULLY closed.
When the window is lowered, even 1cm or more, then the creaks stop.
If we are talking about the same thing please provide me (and the forum)with more details if you can.
For example:
did you have to strip the interior of the door????
When you are sayin "four corner pulleys of the mechanism" what do you mean? (the motor part? the rails where the window goes up and down????,etc)
Thanks in advance
Nikos
