I thought that the mirrors only heated when you selected the heated rear screen or when the outside temp dropped below 5deg C. My right hand side mirror now is heated all the time.
Anyone else had this problem?

and if I remember correctly my service booklet says that the minute you start the car the mirrors gets heated. The heating is not connected to the rear screen heating button on my S3.

They are not based on the heated rear screen which is a pain when you have a lot of driving rain and the heat effect helps to clear mirrors.
Bit of a pain as in heavy rain the 'auto' feature is an *** (unusual for audi?).
I wonder what the reason was?

The mirrors starts to heat when the ignition is on and the temperature is below 5deg C. Actually up to model 2000 the mirrors were heated all the time. There was a change in design on the mirrors. They put in a thermostat.
I had to replace both my mirrors. They stopped heating. Warranty though.
