Default HELP - Alpine Headunit - CDA-9813R

Im thinking of installing the above head unit and take the existing Audi Concert. However I have heard from people that the rear speakers are actively driven and by installing a new head unit you loose rear speakers. Is this true? If so is there anyway around this???

Waiting for Audio Techies to contact me!

this is my alpine 9812RR:

you don't loose the rear spekers if you use the correct adaptor cable which conects to pre-outes and remote power on (autoleads).

however one thing you will find is that you have to put extra rear fad as the fronts will be much louder than the rears.

the A3 rear amp is tiny about the size of a *** packet!

Cheers

Or you can wire up the rears straight to the head unit, but this will require removal of the rear speaker panels to get to the speakers.
Alternatively you could run speaker cable to the rear of the car and tap into the speaker cables on the loom coming out of the sub, but this would require removing the rear panels as well, so no real advantage.

Fully agree. There isn't really too easy a way to do it. My A3 had no speakers in the rear when I bought it so I had the guy wire it at the same time he put in the head unit. Head unit is a competent Pioneer CD player but I did buy ultra cheap speakers for the front doors and the rear panels. I restored the factory-fit front speakers and bought Infinity Kappa 652.5i for the rear panels. Was a right royal pain in the **** to install them but the audio quality is excellent as they're driven from the head-unit. May not need Kappa's in the front either. Check out the Blaupunkt Toronto on www.bluespot.co.uk and there's a cool 'bass-in-a-box' subwoofer with a 100W amp and 12cm driver in a box a little smaller than a shoe box. Julian.
