Default Help Buying 07 A3

hi, first post.

my wife and i are looking at buying a 07 A3 2.0T with 40,000 miles. its FWD has open sky, leather among other things. looks like it had some ac work. i'm assuming it's the compressor issue we've read about. any other things we should lookout for? The dealers asking 18,500. we are going to see if they can come down a bit. Does anyone have a idea at what we should offer them?

thanks for your time and comments in advance. my wife is a little nervous about buying her first car. she has never had a car payment and drives a 1991 corolla with 92,000 miles. so we will see if she goes through with the purchase.

something else to keep in mind; there are also cam follower issues (every 15-30k miles) with the 2006 to 2008.5 models. i read that it wasn't a difficult fix, but there was no way of knowing if it was going out other than to take it out and check it visually. i didn't want to deal with that so i opted for the 3.2, which worked out 'cause the quattro, which i originally wanted, only came w/ the 3.2 in '07. i got it for $20k, which was below blue book for an s-line.

good luck with the purchase. here's a picture of my car.
