Default Interesting. The Jerry Nelson comments caught my eye: He owns my dealership :o

He and his partners also own a Porsche (same lot, different building)and a Land Rover (2 miles away) dealership. FWIW, I have no complaints about them. Good people and professional service.

Default Something doesn't add up here

I can understand the dealer margin perspective. But we paid for the maintenance in advance in the purchase price of the vehicle. The money is in Audi's bank for several years before it is used to pay the dealership for maintenance on our cars. The dealer will get the margin back when I bring my car in for service, and have the opportunity to do some possible warranty work as well. They get paid by Audi with the money sitting in the bank.

Now if there was not the Audi Advantage, I would not even take my car to the dealer unless it was some warranty problem that I couldnt take care of myself. They would never have the chance to charge me $200 for an oil change and rotate the air in my tires....or see the possibility of simple warranty work.

The money to the dealer won't change, unless they raise the price of the vehicles, (easy enough to do anyway) not inclusive of the Audi Advantage money paid for and sitting in the bank vault collecting interest.

What gives?

Last time I looked, dealer margin was a meager 6%, not 9. And has been since 05.

Something in your post doesn't add up either. $200 for an oil change?!

Basically a "service" is an oil and filter change. No more no less. $30 at home-no time wasted

Default Not even close to true.

For starters they all use synthetic now.. Every car 05 and on even the NA motors get synthetic. The 2.0T uses the least so thats 30 bucks in oil alone.. Filter is about 11 bucks. The smallest service which is just basically an oil change (25K on these cars) pays probably .9 hours to a tech so lets say Audi pays based on a reduced labor rate of 80 bucks.. So thats 72 bucks labor. 113 bucks, not including that Audi reimburse for a car wash to the dealer.

Thats just for the smallest service at the 25K.

A 5K is the next smalled basically the same but with a tire rotation so pays another .4 hours or so.

A 15K on an 05+ car gets a pollen filter, plus connect the 505X for a diag scan, and lube up the door hinges. Topping out at over 200 bucks.

For the 35K (guessing not sure the correct inteval for the big on. You also get an airfilter and spark plugs.. Making labor a total of about 2.5 hours and adding another 100 in parts (some plugs are 30+ at dealers each).

Then every 2 years they do a brake fluid change.

Sure if you do it all yourself you can do it for less then a dealer but its still your time to both get the parts and do it.. Plus you still pay for the parts.
