2006 A3 2.0T DSG
Lava Gray Pearl
Gray Inteiorr
Premium Package
Xenon Lights
Open Sky
Cold Weather
1690 miles on it.
Certifed Pre-Owned for 6 Years or 100,000 - 2 years or 50,000 miles longer then a brand new one...
$31,699 plus taxes and fees.
From a local dealer, not sure about the open sky system. KBB says this is near MSRP for a comparably equipped NEW A3. Isn't the rule of thumb 20-25% value drop when it's driven off the lot?
TIA

if this is exactly the car you want. If fees and taxes are low where you live, adjust downward.
The price of a car drops 20 to 30% after you drive it off the lot if you trade it back in as a private party. With the warranty and probably a better interest rate than you can find on your own, it has it's own merits to pay a little more and buy from the dealer.

I'm not hot on the open sky at all. I'd probably jump on it immediately if it was $31.7 out the door.
Dealer claims selection is poor as the 2007 are a-comin' and well, you just can't find a solid roof on an A3 in the USA.

Purchase price to trade-in = 20% drop.
Trade-in + certification $1000 + shop visit $250 = dealer cost.
Add $2000 - $3000 profit = your buy price.
Why would you buy used for $31,700 if you can buy new for a few grand more?
How much is a new one with the same equipment?

So, this dealer is trying to sell a used car for more than MSRP of a new car (according to carsdirect.com prices)? Yet another example of why dealers are idiots.
I'd love to hear the justification for this pricing.
