Default Since the skis are light, it IS about size...

I must assume your both size challenged and a joker at a local outdoor store so I'll consider the source.

Default I agree. The Thule site indicates skis of <180cm will fit...

This will work for most but not all the gear I haul. The 1600 or the long skinny 1200 will have to be tested on the roof to see how they will fit. Thanks

Default not,

there is no inherent size limitation, some clearances and options are limited, in all vehicle applications. the actual, functional and safe limit is correct fit, and a specific weight load limit, 100 pounds per crossbar for our applications, counting the rack itself. that weight limit is easily, and often exceeded by jokers.

so cram it real far. i find it disturbing when people generalize the folks they are seeking information from as useless, and insult them. almost every shop who deals yakima and thule, has at least one employee who could teach a class on car racks. if you are not serious enough about seeking them out, that's your fault.

don't ask for help from them, then. have fun damaging your car and your equipment

and watch out for those damn ski tech jokers, and those damn audi tech jokers, i'm sure you know more than them all

and then let me apologize to the forum for hearing your crap, and then throwing crap back.

Default Seeking the forum's advice always seems to help...

As you may have noticed, I did seek the assistance of experts in the field. at 2 different local shops that carry racks, the staff on hand could offer no other advice than to use trial & error. While this may end up to be the best approach in the end, I thought I'd throw it out to the forum, which includes an amasing body of expertise. Actual examples of what people are using in the field seems to me to be the best information possible. I should have taken the high road and and not responded when you jumped down my throat for merely suggesting that the shop employees I consulted were "jokers"...obviously a poor choice of words on my part.
