It hauls - 2 sets of 16" Hoosiers
or
6 60" Lutron lighting panels
or
2 dogs in great luxury
It looks really good in my driveway- especially in comparison to the assorted Bavarian Money Wasters, Lexii, Subdivisions and Fordosauruses owned by the neighbors. They think I'm some kinda Leftwing EconoGeezer cause I don't own the biggest or most expensive car I can afford. I smille just seeing it in front of my house.
It hauls a$$ with almost complete anonymity, and makes a neat farting noise when shifted under load. DSG isn't a manual, but it's lots of fun- challenging in it's own way.
Fanbois and ricers rarely tachup on me at stoplights - nobody around here knows what an A3 is. When I drive one of the Porsches or BMW's, I'm harassed by every boy racer in town.
My average MPG since new is exactly 25 - no trips, Town/Suburban driving.
Did I mention that it's a blast to drive?
And for a modern car, it's beautifully built - and so far very easy and logical to work on.

It hauls tires very well! It's also a good place to crash, with the rear seats down and
a sleeping bag with pillow.
It turns on a dime.
It's got a great torque curve for squirting thru traffic.
Looks unassuming for flying under legal radar.

Lacking is a linear power curve.
And engine noises aren't especially inspiring if decent for a 4 banger.

The last car I loved was my modded '91 Base pkg Miata
That car grew with me. I learned all the driving dynamics/theory described in H.A.Watts book. I changed the car very little and kept the engine totally stock. The NA Miata is an absolute jewel of a car. I recall one time during hot laps at Laguna when an ex-IMSA racer was behind the wheel of a totally stock 1.6 Miata, and my 1.6 had Kumho DOTs. He was sucking my bumper by the end of the first lap, then he'd back off make a run on me and suck my bumper again. He'd change his line mid turn, he take a different braking point, he'd bob and weave in my rearview mirror. All the while thinking "where is he getting his grip, how is he jumping off this turn ready for a sprit, and I'm huffing it?
I do really enjoy my A3, a few modded B5 V-dubs were interested in seeing more of my car, but I was only interested in getting to where I needed to go. Very nice V.Dubs, I wouldn't disparage their custom work at all. I just didn't have time to show them props for their mods.

Its smarter than I am.....
Design is well thought out.
Power is sufficient
Practical
Interior quality is as good as higher models
looks great
Open Sky
Reliable
It a 'Sleeper'
and everyone doesn't have one.
