Default Install Your own Satellite Radio using the existing wiring...

I did not want to spend $500 on the satellite module that audi has for the A3. I like the portable ones that you can use at home and travel with... So I purchased the Sirius Starmate for $50, with the rebate, and the home kit for $40. Now I have satellite radio in my car and at home!

The Starmate came with the car kit so I ran the satellite cable under the steering wheel through the drive side, under the moldings into the trunk where the factory module installs into. I cut the satellite anteena off the wire before running it. Afterwards, I purchased a "Wireless Phone Antenna Adapter" from RadioShack for $11 (#17-345) for the male plug and cut the other end off. I soldered the cables together and then broke off 2 of the grounds around the male plug so that I could connect the cable to the existing wiring in the car.

For Sirus, you need to use the white satellite cable. I also removed the green housing around the plug.

As for the power, I ran it under the shifter and into the 12V plug next to the cigarette plug. The whole thing works and looks great!

Here are some more pictures.

Default I salute your ingenuity. Gotta love the OEM look, though...

My XM was only $350 from the dealer (factory install).

Default I agree, that looks awesome, but he doesn't have the NAV system.

Now just add the $2k for the NAV...
