Wow! I guess either theft rates or boy racer types are driving up R32 insurance costs...

Default According to my ins. company, the A3 is a wagon and thus has lower rates.

If I had bought a MK-V GTi instead, my insurance would have doubled!

Default In the R32 forum I saw someone say they're paying more now than they were on a Cayman...

I had the same issue when I was looking. It was going to cost almost double for insurance if I got a Jetta/GLI instead of the A3

Default Ouch! Same thing happened to a friend who bought a WRX when they first came out.

He was under 25 with a clean record, and the car was under his parent's policy with him being a secondary driver. Went from $1000 a year to over $4000 a year once the kiddies started falling off the road with them.

The A3 is cheaper to insure than a GTi (for me).

Default Same here.

I ended up saving money by buying an A3 instead of a fully loaded GTI just because the GTI's insurance was significantly more.

BTW I'm paying $190 a month with an absolutely clean record... living in philly sucks. Being 23 doesn't help either. I'm going to reduce my coverage to shave a little off but I'll still be paying at least 160.

Default that is very high for even philly.

boston, dc, ny, LA, all have higher rates. way higher. so don't complain about philly

what insurance company?
have you shopped around?

I went from allstate to state farm about 5 years ago. saved a bundle.

Yep, GTI turned out a little more for me too. I like the A3 wolf in disguise advantage. ;-)
