People over there buy cars made to their spec's with greater frequency. It is more cost effective to offer a limited spread of options and to offer them in packages which limits the possible combinations and limits the required spare parts and service info required to support said cars.

So cost, because if we had it their way I'd expect we'd be paying what they pay for the cars which is a lot more in general... we pay very little for Audis compared to some countries which get more options or so I understand.

Wait till the C30 comes out with all it's interior options, Audi may be pressured to do more.

Besides, in the first year, as already mentioned most manufacturers build cars to fit the most number of people who will buy them off the lot. In America, BMW, Merc, Audi MUST have leather as defined by those who buy these cars. BMW has a wide range of fabrics and colors which will never be offered in the US because they will never sell. Americans are very much like sheep and cows, they follow the leader and take the path of least resistance. Wild interior/exterior colors and fabrics scare us to death.

I'm really tempted to get some custom seats made w/ red inserts for the A3 but it seems like such a big $$$ expenditure...
