The price is $500 above invoice, or ~$1900 under MSRP. The dealer had to trade the car from another dealer so I'll take delivery tomorrow. Joy!
The only thing missing on the car is the xenon. Ideally I wanted the xenon, open sky, and the nav all together, but the only cars in Southern California with this combination are either too loaded or have colors that I can't tolerate. And since I cannot wait for a custom order (my old car was stolen, leaving me with no transport), I sacrified xenon for all the other toys. I hope listening to SDs keeps me busy enough not to regret its absence.
Didn't need satellite radio--the local NPR affiliate is good enough for me.
Lojack was forced on me because the originating dealer installs them on all of their cars. Still, not a bad option to have for $300.
The choice of the sport/convenience package over the premium package was an easy one. Having experienced the sport seat, which grips you like a tailored glove, the regular seats felt like bench seats. Prospective buyers should definitely check it out before dismissing it out of hand.
Tomorrow will be a busy day for me
I'll post some pictures soon. Wish me luck!

Great choice, nice color and a good week for A3 buyers (bought mine Monday)!
You will really love this car it is quick and so cool looking...and the fact only 8,000units will be imported into the US for 2006 is nice too!
congrats

not needed with immobilizer 3 unless you have a swarthy gang of vw/audi techs stealing cars with tow trucks so they can bring em to work and get a key ordered then program the car to accept the new key using a 5052 and their personal login which is rather traceable as is the key order which would have to be done by a parts consultant whom would have to use his/her login to order the key. All of the above is traceable to the dealership at which they are employees.
I'm gonna bet that the typical lifty shifty types are probably not well versed in borrowing a immobilizer equipped audi as they may be in jamming a screwdriver in the ignition cylider of one not equipped with it.
Oh and there are no laser cut keys, they are cut by a router type device. They keys for the A3 from what I remember are not sold in non-cut form and are only to be cut by the parts depot not by the dealership.
In other words, lojack is a waste of money on your A3 unless you have a parts guy or vw/audi tech out to get you.

One evening two weeks ago I parked behind my apartment--in a very safe neighborhood--and went up stairs to fetch my wallet. Since it was going to take only a minute, I made the mistake of keeping the car running. When I came back, it was gone. And that was why I had to buy the A3.
I called the police immediately. If my car had lojack, it would have been found within a couple of hours, if not minutes. Having an engine immobilizer system would not have helped in this case.
Of course I was partly to blame for not being cautious enough, but this case does show you that thiefs don't have to rely on technical ingenuity alone in plying their trade. Simple human error provides them with plenty of opportunities.
