Default Just got my A3. Couldent help but give it a little run.

WOW, what a car. I've been driving around all day. I couldent help but pass a VW Corrado on a two lane street. I was in 6th gear and doing about 75k/m when I pulled into the other lane to pass. After getting next to the Corrado, he dropped gears and floored it. I could hear his engine whine and his snappy shift to 5th. I couldnt let this one go. I stayed in 6th and kept even with him. Then slowly inched ahead."Thank god, a car was coming" He let off after I slowly pulled away. He pulled up to me at the next light and wanted to run. But I dident take it. The car is to new and I need a good break in period. Yes I know, not a good way to break in the car. But how could I let that go. The RPM's never went past 4,800. But it was under full throttle. So I drove to work nice and slow. Hope it was not too bad for the car.

P.S. The Corrado was a VR-6.

Default Thats what I thought to. I was very shocked when I kept up. And more when I inched past him.

But i think thats why he wanted to race again.

Torque at low rpms. They have to wait for revs to climb.

Default That's what I mean. You have boost. They have revs. Revs take longer unless they are in

the powerband already.

Just spent two weeks driving cars where the main powerband is between 4000 and 5800rpms. Decent power down low, but nothing like the A3 :-)

Default Plus much less torque..and much less hp.. on a car that

doesn't weigh all that much less.. really its not surprising.. Corrados are very nice looking cars and can be made fast but by all means they can't really keep up with much thats out today.

They had lots of power for their day but were too heavy.. Cars now have more power and weigh the same.

Default True, the horsepower wars have really raised the ante. Wasn't that long ago that 250hp in the S4 was

a lot of ponies.
