So I couldn't resist. Lava Grey with light grey interior. Premium package and Sound package only. Manual transmission. I had 4 other colour choices, but we couldn't find one any more basic than this in those choices.
My wonderful buddy at Steven's Creek Audi Porsche, Tom Mcafee, tracked down the Lava Grey for me this past week. It took a dealer trade and special trucking to get it here. Tom is technically in Porsche sales these days (we trained together back in the day), but he humoured me and then had his friend on the Audi side, Robert, take care of the delivery once the car arrived.
I leased it despite the so-so rates, planning to get a V6 manual in a few years. For those of you in California, US Bank had slightly better money factor, if slightly lower residual. Payments were just over $500 (incl tax) with just drive offs (around $1300) and a 48% residual for 15K miles per year. The guys at the dealer were totally up front about everything, and the whole process was pain free as could be.

So it drives incredibly well. You all probably know that ;-) The ESP stays out of the picture under almost all conditions. Plenty of feedback except for the light steering - which otherwise pin-sharp accurate. The engine is still being broken in, but power is sweet, with little evidence of the turbo most times. It just feel like a normally aspirated 200hp engine. A nice revvy one at that! The stock suspension is just fine for the rough roads around here, since I'm used to even more massive body lean in the Alfas. The car really shrinks around you as you drive it. I was at home within minutes of driving away.
As we drove around San Francisco, people stopped and looked and took pictures. One fellow in a black Golf was especially funny as he did a double take, U turn, and then homed in.
In some ways it feels odd that I'm taking this one home: I've helped thousands of people buy Audis and VWs, and have taken many more test drives, but it's been many years since I've had an Audi or VW in my garage.

Just kidding. I do know that I was the first one that Hoehn Audi sold one to.
So, you didn't go for the DSG, eh?
