they are still new nuf to gass like that, especially if you did not wash them prior to putting them in the car. I would take them out and wash them, let them dry out in the warm summer air. or, just see it there is dog poopy under the mat. do you own a dog? they like to hide things in cars. ;-)

something made along the lines of the Monster Mats we have for inside the car...better still with the logo like mine has! That's kind of what I pictured but maybe there's some reason that's not practical?

No doggy poop. The smell is also more like that of chemicals mixed with that of old rubber tires.
I hung the mats in the garage to air for about 2 weeks prior to use. But I didn't wash them. Per your advise, I'll definitely need to do that once we get a couple days of sun.
It's more an annoyance than anything. It's cheap rubbermaid mats that were on sale (yea i know, got what i paid for). So I guess if all else fails I'll toss them out.
The Lloyd mats at autoaccessories looks pretty nice. Gonna order a set
