Mushy brake theory? (noob alert)

OK, I don't know nothing about nothing hardly except that I really, really like my 07 2.0 Sline and so far (1050 miles in three weeks) it has lived up to my expectations and more. HOwever, I like most find the brakes mushy/spongy. Today I happened to pick up a copy of EuroTUner ( I believe) and they were printing a how to on putting brembos on I believe an 05 Jetta. Anyway, they made some comment about "the stock brake lines on the 2.0t are overworked causing bulging rubber lines and a spongy feel, so we replaced those with steel braided lines to firm up the feel...." Now, could I assume possibly that is one reason our A3 brakes feel spongy? Would I find a tremendous improvement in the feel of my brakes by simply changes the brake line to a steel braided line?

doesn't Porsche use rubber lines? any way.
better pad, flush, better fluid; maybe lines. but I was never that spongy or "mushy" even w the stockers.

A higher temp fluid won't make any difference unless you repeatedly use the brakes hard (e.g., at a track). Better pads will improve modulation, but will have little effect on the initial pedal softness.
I have a suspicion that the brake system may not be bled properly as it comes from the factory. After putting on SS lines, flushing with high-temp fluid, and changing the pads to ceramics, the pedal feel was vastly improved. After boiling the fluid at the track, the mushiness returned and did not completely disappear even with a re-bleed. There's a procedure documented in the Bentley repair manual for purging the ABS controller, and that definitely helped at least one person; I'll be trying that when I get around to flushing the fluid again this winter.

On initial braking, pedal feels more connected to the brakes. Under hard braking, still feels kind of mushy. No increase in NVH, yet. There is some slop between the bushing and the caliper.
