Default If you search around, most folks agree that the real deal is better for the long haul or

if you like to dig deeply into your car's systems.

Check out the VAGCOM forum for details.

Default I agree about VAGCOM software, im speaking purely of the hardware though...

they charge pretty stiff prices for cable interfaces to use with the software when 3rd party companies make perfect knockoffs that work hand in hand with VAGCOM...

check here...
20-30$ on ebay for just the cable
http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=va gcom&category0=

99$ for the VAGCOM software license
http://www.ross-tech.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=VSWR&amp ;Category_Code=VAGCOM

versus

230-350$ for an "official" VAGCOM package
i.e., branded in some way and all in one box.

of course, id do deeper research and google searches to make sure people have had success and no failures, but thats a pretty big difference in price.

seems like the only thing you wouldnt get, and might be worth it to some people, is the hardware support... personally thats what the internet and google, etc, is there for.

if i try this, ill be sure to document and post.

Ya. Open windows/close windows with remote. It's actually a feature I used regularly.

Default Maybe on an older car that doesn't get software updates and/or if you are a computer expert to

trouble shoot the cable as well as car..... As Ross Tech notes, it's for one PC and will not work if you update or upgrade the PC after software installation. They will not help you troubleshoot anything that might have to do with a hardware problem. The regular updates provided by VAG COM may not work with your present hardware. You buy it, and it's up to you to figure how to make it all work together.

Default the cable is really not much to troubleshoot, either it works or doesnt. as long as the....

driver is in working order, the computer and the car should interface fine using a 3rd party cable.

thanks for the links, ill get to reading later. and you CAN try the software before buying, so it would be worth a look with 3rd party cables.

Read the links. Search for 'VAG COM ebay' as well.
