Default Agree. A/S not necessarily tougher.

If you have winter tires, choose a UHP summer tire with high load rating. These would TEND to be tougher. You may find comments on sidewall toughness too. Keep in mind that tough sidewall often means that steering response good, comfort bad.

I'm running kumho ecsta spt with high load rating partly due to the fact that i had them previously on a 2 ton car, and they've held up fine. Pretty progressive too, so I know when they're nearing the limits. Oh, also they're CHEAP.

Go on tirerack.com. They are the highest rated (tirerack tests) of all UHP tires in 225/40/18 on the 10 cheapest tires in this category.

MX are relatively cheap and sticky but comfort/noise will be bad. also may not last long.

Default I've had bad experiences with kumho. Performance-wise, they are sticky

in the dry, so-so in the wet. Tire wear is not that great, but expected with the price/performance factor. Major issue was with the consistency of the quality. I've had two sets, and each time at least one of the tires bubbled before they wore out. I didn't abuse them.

Default Thanks for all the input.......

I'll prolly pull the trigger in 2-3 weeks. a few other mods on the 7 day horizon.
Brigestones look good. and can I ignore those General UHP's?

Default i dont see why the a/s would be any tougher than the summer

would probably get more miles out of them though

Default Still a huge fan of Michelin Pilot Sport. Have had both PS1s and PS2s on past cars.

I like them specifically because of their resilience. My Pirelli tires always manage to get holes, etc..., whereas the Michelins always seem more robust.

Default The Bridgestone RE050A's also seem tough - very stiff sidewall,...

even on the 91W. I just don't have enough time with these yet to draw conclusions.
