Not bad for a $13k. I'd take it over a Neon, which it replaces

"The Rabbit goes on sale this summer in both two and four-door versions, with pricing starting at $14,990 for the two-door. Standard features include an advanced ABS braking system, traction control, active front head restraints, front side airbags, air conditioning and anti-theft alarm system with remote locking.
The 2006 Rabbit benefits from its laser-welding production process, class-leading fit and finish, heightened body strength, crash protection, driving dynamics, and reduced interior noise. Drivers of the Rabbit will benefit from it's fully independent suspension system that uses a multi-link rear and optimized front axle, and will enjoy the new optional six-speed automatic transmission with Tiptronic® (five-speed manual standard). A new powerful engine with a larger displacement of 2.5 liters and five-cylinders generates 150 horsepower.
Also among the most impressive new driving advancements are a standard electro-mechanical steering system, and an optional advanced Electronic Stabilization Program (ESP)."

The base Caliber comes with 143hp at 6400rpms and 124ft lbs of torque at 5500rpms. Compare that to the Golf's 150hp at 5000rpms and 170ft lbs of torque at 3750rpms. Remote locking is optional on the Dodge as are power windows, air conditioning, floor mats. ABS is optional on the Caliber, and traction control and stability control are not available in the base model. Head airbags for front passengers only. Interior passenger space is virtually identical except for an extra inch or two of headroom in the Dodge.
Dodge does offer a quick order package with an upgraded 150hp engine (135ft lbs of torque at 5200rpms) with CVT transmission. All yours for a cool $1000. The chilled glovebox and a/c for the rest of the car, will set you back another $1000. Keyless entry, power windows, and power doorlocks add another $540. The musicgate sound system adds $435. ABS will cost $400 and it still comes with drum rear brakes. Floor mats are $50. Destination adds $560.
Tally to match the Rabbit in basic form is $17,510. Hardly the deal seems on the surface.

I know a bunch of people with fond memories of the Rabbit - and we never sold many Golfs.
I was quite young when the Rabbit first came to Canada, and they sold like hotcakes. Sadly they rusted like Ladas.

over - I was 14! The car was 4cyl 1.3L, 65hp, 5 speed and 900kg ~2000lbs, no PS, dual carbs, 8V....pretty decent platform for learning the basics - and it was great in snow!
