Default oil filter housing drain

ECS sells one for 50 bones, are there any alternatives out there? Do you even need a spout? It looks as though you could drain it without one if you needed... ?

Default drain it without one, ....

just do it normally once, and see if it makes enough of a mess that you'd want to spend $50 and handle a section of dirty oily tubing every oil change, instead. (and store a length of dirty oily tubing somewhere, between oil changes)

and you don't drain all your oil from there, just what's in the filter housing, so it's really not a big deal.

it doesn't make a mess at all on my car, it's a very clean process. i like it as it is

Default Re: drain it without one, ....

yeah, I know the only drainage is oil from the housing, but the reason I ask is because I did drain it without one -- and it was a mess Luckily the auto parts store was kind enough to provide some cardboard that kept the concrete clean.

I may have made a bigger mess by trying to prevent making a mess. Being too careful may have lead to carelessness.

i didn't know that any tubing was necessary... i thought it was just a spout...?

Default The "official" high-priced Matra T40057 comes with a tube. You add your own on the ECS.

Default ah, i see. still, i wonder what exactly I would be paying for?

... the valve looks like a tire valve stem. It seems like thered be a very cheap and easy way to achieve the function of these drains without much effort.

i would, however, be pretty hesitant to go pokin around *****-nilly under there

Default Some who have used a screwdriver to push the valve open have reported

that it didn't reseat correctly afterwards thus creating an oil leak.

Default Has anyone else noticed that 5 qts isn't enough? I'm using a 5 liter jug..

plus about another 1/2 qt - about 5.8 quarts total to top line.

I put in 4.5 as TFM states with oil filter change... and level looked fine.
