Default Optional 2.0T Fog Light Grills + Cold Air Intake

You may have seen the review from the installation of this EIP CAI (Cold Air Intake) on the DVAG site. That said, I only want to share a few of the photos from this kit. And only because it explains why I'm so excited about these new fog light grills.

At least in the states, we've only seen VW fog light grill replacements. With the help from some friends overseas, I've discovered there are replacements for the A3 as well. The CAI I'm running uses a K+N filter which is located in between the fog light and the wheel well. The stock panel is removed from the OE engine cover which is sealed off.

Here are optional grills from Germany. We can order them from brokers overseas. The optional fog light grills allow more air to come into the filter which is now located behind the fog light. They could also benefit other performance modifications like BBKs (inspiration from Dave).

The fog light grill on our cars now, are completely blocked off. I am feeling significantly more power at highway speed - so I'm confident I'm passing more air with the current setup. But for track nights and cruises (dry conditions), I'll quickly swap to the sporty grill for even better gains. The change takes about 10 seconds after the first few times you've played with the parts.

IMO we have a sufficient number of threads consisting of everyone's opinions of the different CAIs on the market. For that reason, can we keep this thread dedicated towards the grills, gains and drawbacks from them, and other uses/ideas.

TIA

Default As I'm sure you know there are many cars on the road with a similiar application. I can

remember the mustang cobra R with NO fog. air came thru the hog hole. yes it's risky. I have the optional air bypass valve for that situation.

But more importantly, I'd only run the sporty fog grill, part time. dry conditions only. They switch in a flash.

ALSO, the filter is on the driver side. Most puddles and water fording would typically be on the passenger side.

Default If you can only eliminate that wire harness in frt of the K&Nfilter its robbing serious air flow

J/K!!!

Now, that's what I'm talking about!! Your persistant and research has paid off. IMHO (with the open fog light grill), you'll be running the best looking/functional CAI on an A3. Very, very good job, Ryan. I will email you later for details.
