Default Ordering A3 - options questions

2.0T DSG

1) I am thinking sport package but without the performance tires. My main fear with the performance tires is tread life. I had performance tires (potenzas) on my 2001 FWD TT Roadster and the front tires barely lasted 10K miles. Also I live in Portland, OR in the hills and the roads are wet a lot. On the other hand, I gather that people hate the all-season tires that some A3's get? Help???

2) Dealer says I CAN get Sport + Convenience + Bluetooth + Bi-Xenon. I of course do not believe him, based on the audiusa.com site, and what I have read here. My question is, can xenons be purchased later and swapped in if I just order the stock halogens? I really want the xenons most for driving around in the fog, but it would suck to lose the entire convenience package and bluetooth just for the lights.

3) Dealer says Garnet Red is $1000 but audiusa.com says it's $750. What's up? Is website just out of date?

Thanks

Hey! No copying! That's my car! ;-)
I've got a Garnet Red, Sport, and Convenience coming in the next few weeks. Have your dealer try to enter the order in the system with the bi-xenons included and I'll bet it won't let him.

Lots of xenon kits available out there though. I'm deciding between the xenondepot one with 4100k bulbs and super slim ballasts and the xTec one with 5000k bulbs, bulky ballasts, but a lifetime warranty.

Default Answers to 2 and 3:

Your dealer should be able to order Sport + Convenience + Bluetooth + Bi-Xenon. They may have to call it in to the AoA order desk, but it's supposedly doable. Stand your ground. Post-purchase upgrades with the OEM parts (if you can determine all that you need) are expensive.

Garnet Red is $750. As are Moro Blue, Dakar Beige, Venetian Violet, and Murano Green. Ocean Blue, Lava Gray, and Light Silver are $450. Brilliant Black, Brilliant Red, and Arctic White are no-charge. Price Gouging is $1000.

Default Answer to 1:

The key difference between summer and all-season tires is their designed ability to have traction in snow, ice and mud. In fact, often summer tires outperform all-season in rain (and dry, of course).

I also live in the Portland area and got the summer tires. They are awesome in rain.

Default The sales person was surprised too . . .

He said the order guide must have changed because their custom colors in stock were $750. He double checked with someone else. Is there someone at AoA I can talk to to sort this out?

Default how is the tread life?

I am just gunshy because the last FWD Audi I had with "performance" tires was a disaster as far as tread wear.

Default They should show you a copy of the current order guide.

Here's the 3.2l V6 and you can see the paint costs listed.<ul><li><a href="http://forums.fourtitude.com/zerothread?id=2236235">click</a></li></ul>

Well, it all depends on what you buy. There are summer tires with high and low life, depends on how much grip you want. More grip, less life, etc.

Check out the wear ratings and compare based on that (check out www.TireRack.com). There are summer tires with wear ratings below 200 and probably some above 400.
