According to the TSB, I'm supposed to have the latest latch design. However, after a month of owning the vehicle the front sun shade keeps on opening by itself when going over bumps or closing car doors. When looking at the latch I don't find any lose broken pieces. Does anyone know which part of my latch is broken?
I find that the black pieces with the white round posts can shift sideways. I'm suspecting it's the white round posts that hold the black pieces that's broken at the base. Am I correct?

I'm taking mine in this Saturday for it's first (and hopefully last) sunshade repair.
On mine, it is indeed one of the white posts that snapped; you can't see where it is broken, but if you grab the black "claws" and give a little wiggle, you can see one of the white posts move with the hook mechanisms, while the other is still fixed to the rest of the sunshade.

it doesn't look like the latch is fully engaging the holding tab (especially the left side of the latch assy shown in the pic).
When my latch broke the left pincer broke in half, it was very obvious. I don't see any damage to your pincers in your pics.
Take it back to the dealership and see if the latch and/or handle assy needs to be re-aligned to fully engage the holding tab.
One other thing, make sure nothing is lodged behind the holding tab preventing the latch to fully engage; highly unlikely but probable.

My original latch broke one of the posts off as Spaz described. I made a temporary fix by replacing the post with a small flat head screw and then noticed that one clip was not engaging correctly. I fixed this by cutting the rubber stopper and it's plastic mount back slightly with an exacto knife. This actually worked very well until I got a replacement from the dealer. Is there any way to confirm use of the improved part?

according to the TSB, my VIN falls under the vehicles with the "improved" part. What we need is a part that can "resolve" this problem, "improve" is just not enough.
I like your idea with the screw, I think it will last longer than the "improved" part.

My latch was rattling, and wasn't holding tightly when closed. I don't care much since I almost *never* close it, but the rattling annoyed me.
Look at the first picture you posted, I c-a-r-e-f-u-l-l-y lifted the end of the spring over the black post to take the tension off, then bent the spring sides "inward" towards each other to make it more of an arc, then carefully lifted the end of the spring back into place behind the black post.
Now it actually has tension against the posts, holding the black clips together snugly. No more rattle, and it closes solidly. If it breaks, I'll get it fixed, but for now it's all good.
