Proclip install failure - anyone with a 3.2 that can report success?

(After writing this, I realize the reader needs a lot of patience to understand my descriptions - sorry from the beginning)
I bought the angle mount Proclip for my ipod that is designed to go to the right of the radio... problem is that the 3.2 with the Bose appears to prevent use of this location.
There are two brackets - one you slip behind the plastic face between the hard plastic and the soft surrounding - and the other one screws to that. You then screw in the correct 'seat' for whichever ipod you own.
The issue is that the first bracket looks something like an "L" - you are supposed to squeeze it between the hard plastic dash and the soft plastic dash (using plastic tools to separate the two dash materials) - once you pull out the plastic tools, the bracket is left in place and it won't come out due to the lip of the "L".
The photo within the install kit shows the other radio setup that comes on the 2.0 model. There's enough depth to the radio, that the lip can fit behind the hard dash material above and below the head unit. In the 3.2, however, since the radio doesn't have a lip edge to it like the plastic dash does, the first bracket just slips out from between the radio and the soft dash once you remove the plastic tools.
I can't install it any lower, or I'll lose use of the slide-out (useless) tray.
Any thoughts besides returning this thing? I prefer this location to the other Proclip mounts.
Thanks.

to no avail.. send it back. I got the vent mount, and in retrospect, am glad. I love it. look for my post, I ran the wire thru the vent. all but totally hidden. just a thought.

the holder could fit on to the bracket. It's not as stable as I would like, but it's worked fine so far. According to my wife, it did "fall" off once, but I suspect it was somehow pulled off. Of course, being the good husband I am, I left it at that.
Sorry about the poor quality--was too lazy to roll the car out of the garage.

had no problems with the enlarged bose stereo (other than sound quality). it was a 15 minute install and has been fantastic ever since.
i cant say exactly from your description, but you might want to try seating the intial piece better. best of luck.

that I spent an awful lot of time trying and every time, it would pop out. There's just no seating that first bracket firmly from what I see.
